Frequently asked questions

1. What level of Norwegian do I need?

None at all. Lessons are suitable for complete beginners as well as students who already speak some Norwegian. Your lessons will be adapted to your current level, goals and previous experience with the language.

2. Do you teach Bokmål or Nynorsk?

I teach Bokmål, the most widely used written form of Norwegian. I’m from Oslo and speak with an Østlandsk accent, which will also be the main spoken variety you’ll encounter in our lessons.

3. Are lessons online?

Yes. All lessons are held online, so you can learn Norwegian from anywhere in the world.

4. How long is each lesson?

You can choose between a one-hour or two-hour session each time you book. If you’ve purchased a package, the time is simply deducted from your remaining hours.

5. How do the lesson packages work?

You can pay as you go or purchase a 5-hour or 10-hour package. Package hours can be used for either one-hour or two-hour sessions, so you can choose the lesson length that suits you each time you book.

6. How long do I have to use my lesson package?

5-hour packages are valid for 6 months from the date of purchase, and 10-hour packages are valid for 12 months from the date of purchase. This gives you flexibility to schedule lessons at a pace that works for you.

If exceptional circumstances prevent you from using your remaining hours before the expiry date, please contact me before your package expires.

7. What will we work on during lessons?

That depends on your individual goals and learning style. Lessons can include conversation, grammar, vocabulary, pronunciation, reading, listening and Norwegian culture. We can follow a structured learning path or focus more closely on particular areas depending on your goals.

8. Can you help me prepare for moving to Norway?

Absolutely. Lessons can focus on practical Norwegian for everyday life, work and social situations, as well as helping you understand more about Norwegian language and culture.

9. Do I need to buy a textbook?

No. I’ll let you know if there are any materials you need for your lessons. Your learning plan and materials will depend on your level and goals, and I offer a variety of materials for free.

10. What happens during the free consultation?

The free 30-minute consultation is an informal conversation about your Norwegian level, goals, interests and learning needs. If you already speak some Norwegian, we can also use part of the conversation to get an idea of your current level. Afterwards, I’ll recommend how we could structure your lessons.

11. Do I have to book lessons after the consultation?

No. The consultation is free and there’s no obligation to continue with lessons.

12. How do I pay for lessons?

Once we’ve confirmed your lesson or package, I’ll send you an invoice with payment instructions. Payment is required before your lesson or package begins.

13. Cancellation policy

Lessons can be rescheduled or cancelled free of charge with at least 24 hours’ notice. Cancellations made with less than 24 hours’ notice may be charged as the booked lesson.
